Verity Filming Locations

A struggling writer, a bloody accident on a Manhattan street and a creepy lakeside house where the manuscript in the office tells a very different story. Verity sets most of its dread in rural Vermont, but the cameras never went there. The whole film was shot in and around New York City, and the Crawford house is a real 1960s home about an hour from Manhattan.

Here’s every confirmed Verity filming location, the scenes tied to each one, and which places you can actually visit. No spoilers for the ending, promise.

What Is Verity About?

Lowen Ashleigh (Dakota Johnson) is a broke, barely-known writer. Then she gets an offer she can’t refuse: finish the bestselling book series of Verity Crawford (Anne Hathaway), a famous author left unable to write after an accident. To do the job, Lowen moves into the Crawford family home in Vermont, alongside Verity’s husband Jeremy (Josh Hartnett) and their young son. In Verity’s office, she finds an unfinished autobiography full of confessions that were never meant to be read.

Nick Antosca wrote the screenplay, and Colleen Hoover is one of the producers (Wikipedia).

Where Was Verity Filmed?

Verity was filmed mainly in New York City from February to April 2025 (MovieWalks). Hathaway and Hartnett started first, and Dakota Johnson joined in March (Wikipedia). The production had first planned to shoot in Los Angeles but moved to New York after the January 2025 wildfires in Southern California (The Cinemaholic).

Vermont never appears on the shooting schedule. Director Michael Showalter told the Motion Picture Association: “Upstate New York worked perfectly for rural Vermont, which is where Verity is set.”

The Crawford House: Beckoning Path, Armonk

The star of the film isn’t a person. It’s the house.

The Crawford home is Beckoning Path, a private estate on 27 lakefront acres in Armonk, Westchester County (Time Out New York). It was designed in the early 1960s by Jens Quistgaard, the Danish designer behind the homeware brand Dansk, for Dansk founders Martha and Ted Nierenberg. Quistgaard rarely designed houses, which makes this one even more unusual (Wallpaper). BarlisWedlick Architects renovated it in 2014 (MovieWalks).

Look for the jagged saw-tooth roof, timber, copper and walls of glass. “The idea behind the house was that it was a shipwrecked boat, crashing into a landscape,” production designer Amy Williams told Wallpaper. She sums up its mood as “haunting, monastic, peaceful, and dangerous” (MPA).

Showalter told the MPA that the house “has never been filmed before, not for a commercial, a movie, or anything,” and that it’s “mid-century modern and heavily influenced by Japanese architecture and art forms.” The roof was the clincher. When Lowen first looks up, she sees “spiky roof fixtures in the shape of a V, like Verity,” which “also look like teeth.” In his words, “walking into this house is like walking into Verity’s mouth or the jaws of this story.”

There was one catch. The house sat “about ten miles outside of the zone” for New York’s film tax credit, so the production paid extra to shoot there. Showalter’s verdict: “I can’t fathom how this film would work without it” (MPA).

What was filmed here: The house is the film’s main location, where most of the drama unfolds (Wallpaper). The real kitchen, living room and lake views are on screen, and the crew added bookshelves to make it feel like an author’s home (MPA). The scene where Verity takes her children out on the lake in a canoe was shot right outside the house (Condé Nast Traveler). Fun detail: the kitchen is stocked with Dansk dishware, a nod to the house’s first owners (Wallpaper).

Can you visit? Not as a casual visitor, and please don’t turn up at the gate. Beckoning Path is privately owned and now runs as a wellness retreat, so the only way in is to book an event held there. Yoga studio Present Wisdom, for example, hosted a one-day retreat at the house in October 2026, limited to 18 guests, with the exact address sent only after booking (Time Out New York). Check their schedule for future dates.

Getting there: Armonk has no train station. Take a Metro-North Harlem Line train from Grand Central to White Plains, then a taxi or rideshare for the last stretch (roughly 20 minutes). Renting a car in the city is easier if you want to explore Westchester for the day.

Broadway Stages, Glendale, Queens: Verity’s Rooms

Some of the house’s most important rooms aren’t in Armonk at all. “Verity’s room, where Lowen stays, the office, and all those hallways were built on a soundstage,” Showalter told the MPA. He adds that “the house is way smaller than it feels in the movie.” The bedrooms were too small to film in, and the real house doesn’t have the long corridors he wanted, so the stage sets were made bigger and more maze-like (MPA).

That soundstage is Broadway Stages in Glendale, Queens, which confirmed that Verity wrapped production at its Glendale facility (Broadway Stages, The Cinemaholic). The crew copied the real house down to its zebrawood floors and copper panels (MPA). Verity’s study, with its hexagonal skylight, shag carpet and sunken living room, only ever existed on that stage (Wallpaper).

Can you visit? No. Broadway Stages is a working studio and isn’t open to the public.

Park Avenue and East 41st Street: The Opening Scene

Verity opens with a shock. Lowen is walking down a Manhattan street when she sees a man hit by a truck, and ends up splattered with his blood (AOL). It’s also how she meets Jeremy, in what the AV Club calls “a blood-spattered meet-weird for the ages.”

This scene was filmed on March 12, 2025, on 41st Street in Midtown Manhattan (Good Morning America). Set photos show Dakota Johnson in a long beige coat and headphones, covered in fake blood, with Josh Hartnett nearby. The spot is the corner of Park Avenue and East 41st Street, a block from Grand Central Terminal and beside Pershing Square (MovieWalks, Condé Nast Traveler). Amy Williams recalled that the busy corner “instantly attracted paparazzi.”

Can you visit? Yes, it’s a public street. Combine it with a look inside Grand Central’s Main Concourse, then stop at the Pershing Square café at 90 East 42nd Street (The Cinemaholic).

Grand Central Terminal

Hachette Book Group Offices, Midtown Manhattan

The mysterious meeting that brings Lowen into Verity’s world was filmed inside the real offices of Hachette Book Group, Colleen Hoover’s own publisher. The crew temporarily took over the space and covered the walls with framed covers of Verity Crawford’s fictional books. And there’s an Easter egg for fans: Colleen Hoover makes a cameo as the office receptionist (Condé Nast Traveler).

Can you visit? No. It’s a private workplace, so this one is for spotting on screen only.

Books Are Magic, Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn

Before the Crawfords, Lowen’s career is going nowhere. The film shows her giving “barely-attended readings at Brooklyn’s Books Are Magic” (AV Club), reading an excerpt of her book in the store’s back room (Condé Nast Traveler).

Books Are Magic is a real, much-loved independent bookstore at 225 Smith Street. Novelist Emma Straub and her husband Michael opened it in April 2017, after their neighborhood bookstore closed (Domino). Fittingly, it sells Colleen Hoover’s books too.

Can you visit? Yes. Take the F or G train to Carroll Street (Time Out New York). The store hosts author readings, so check its events calendar if you’d like to recreate Lowen’s scene (hopefully with a bigger crowd).

Laissez Faire at The Beekman, Financial District

Verity and Jeremy’s flashback meet-cute, with Verity in her signature red, was filmed at Laissez Faire, a high-end cocktail lounge in the Financial District (Condé Nast Traveler). The lounge sits at 10 Theatre Alley, inside The Beekman, a Thompson Hotel (MovieWalks).

The hotel occupies the landmark Temple Court building, completed in 1883. Its atrium rises nine stories to a large pyramidal skylight, ringed by galleries with ornate cast-iron railings (NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission).

Can you visit? Yes. Laissez Faire is a public cocktail bar, so check its current hours and reservation options before you go. Staying at The Beekman is the best way to see the atrium properly.

Rolo’s, Ridgewood, Queens

When Lowen meets her literary agent, Corey (Ismael Cruz Córdova), the dinner was filmed at Rolo’s in Ridgewood, Queens. New York foodies will recognize it for its wood-fired polenta bread, homemade pasta and limited-availability burger (Condé Nast Traveler).

Can you visit? Yes, it’s a working restaurant. Book ahead, and order the polenta bread.

Zum Stammtisch, Glendale, Queens

Jeremy takes Lowen out for her birthday dinner at Zum Stammtisch, a German pub in Glendale, Queens, not far from Broadway Stages. In the book, this dinner happens at an Italian restaurant, but the crew found this local favorite nearby. Amy Williams recommends the pretzels (Condé Nast Traveler).

Can you visit? Yes. It’s a classic neighborhood restaurant, great for a hearty dinner after exploring Queens.

A One-Day Verity Route in New York

  1. Morning: Start at Grand Central and the corner of Park Avenue and East 41st Street, where the opening scene was shot.
  2. Late morning: Take the subway down to the Financial District to see The Beekman, home of Laissez Faire.
  3. Afternoon: Cross into Brooklyn and browse Books Are Magic in Carroll Gardens.
  4. Evening: Head to Queens for dinner at Rolo’s in Ridgewood or Zum Stammtisch in Glendale, two neighborhoods side by side.

Armonk is about an hour from the city, so save Beckoning Path for a separate day if you manage to book an event there.
